IN A bid to keep his flock together, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has really become ‘mulayam’. At least 30 of the 40 BSP legislators, who deserted Mayawati and helped the SP to form the government and whose membership is at stake following the High Court verdict, are now out to cash in on Mulayam’s difficulty.
The Chief Minister, it appears, has no option but to oblige them under the current political scenario. The Government accepted the long-pending demand of mafia-turned politician Dhannajay Singh and provided him with ‘Y’ category security.
Dhnnajay Singh, an independent MLA from Jaunpur, who has been supporting the Mulayam-led Government, has always stood by the Chief Minister with his friend, Raja Bhaiyya.
As many as 22 criminal cases are pending against Dhannajay Singh who was allegedly involved in the murder of an LDA engineer, Masood.
Similarly, the Government has given ‘Y’ category to placate Lalitpur MLA Virendra Singh Bundela, who was on the verge of deserting the Mulayam camp following murder of his son, allegedly at the behest of some SP leaders. Bundela had won the last assembly election from Lalitpur on a BSP ticket but had changed loyalties with other BSP MLAs to help Mulayam to form the government.
One armed head constable and four constables have been deployed at the residence of the two legislators while two security officers — one in mufti with an automatic weapon and another in uniform with a revolver —- would accompany the two legislators 24 hours as per ‘Y category’ security provisions. In this regard, an order was issued on Thursday.

{{/usCountry}}Almost all the 30 of the 40 MLAs do not want to miss the opportunity to cash in on Mulayam’s compulsion. Many of them have been queuing up at the Chief Minister’s residence and Secretariat with applications for posting and transfers.
The Government had to stay a transfer order to adjust an officer on the recommendation of an MLA who also wants to take advantage of the situation to ensure plam posts for his ‘men’.
With the removal of SP (west) Dr Umesh Srivastava yesterday in connection with communal clashes in Aminabad, Kaiserbagh, Maulviganj and other parts of the city, the number of important vacant posts in the state capital went up to four.
The posts of SP (crime) is has been lying vacant for more than two months when Umesh Singh was shifted to the STF. Besides, there is no Circle Officer in the sensitive Hazratganj and Aliganj circles. SP (west), who has been promoted to the IPS, cadre would leave for his new posting in a day or two.
