"We must go forward in our preparedness for any disaster by building necessary infrastructure. People has to be given relief and succour with quickest possible time," Secretary, (Border Management) in the Home Ministry, BS Lalli said during an annual conference of relief commissioners of states and Union Territories.

"Any exercise in tackling disaster has to be meticulously planned. It has to be a team effort and administration has to be extra quick and careful," he said.

Lalli said the two-day meet has given an opportunity to take stock of the preparedness of the states, UTs and central ministries in facing situation of floods and water logging in the wake of ensuing monsoon and cyclonic seasons besides sharing information among themselves about past experiences.

In addition, several issues related to the logistic and financial support by the union government to the states and UTs are also expected to be discussed.
