The serial, by Ramesh Sippy, which was described as the “Sholay of TV” at the relaunch party, has been “technically altered” in its new avatar.

The difference: Sonu Nigam has sung the title song, originally sung by Anup Jalota.

At the relaunch, Ramesh Sippy and his wife Kiran Joneja (who played Veeravali), Alok Nath aka Masterji and Vijayendra Ghatge (who played Veeravali's love interest) relived the memories of the goods old days on the sets. Incidentally, it was during the shoot that Sippy and Joneja first met and fell in love.

The actors spoke on how Sippy canned several takes for a single scene that got even lead actors Alok Nath and Anita Kanwar (Master Haveliram and Lajoji) and the NSD graduates nervous. And then, Dimple Kapadia, who had then starred in Sippy’s Sagar, paid them a visit. “Don’t worry, 8-10 takes are meant for warming up, after that, everything will run smoothly,” she told the cast.

The channel heads said they were open to bringing back more such classics from the DD days. Purnendu Bose, COO, Sahara One, said: “Today when channels are bringing in western formats and adaptations, we thought why not go back to something we created ourselves.”
