The city traffic police claim they are unable to decongest the busy Iffco Chowk as the state-run buses do not pick and drop passengers from the designated stop, forcing commuters to get on and off buses in the middle of service lanes.
This leads to chaos at the busy intersection, said a senior traffic police official.
“We have written to the general manager of Haryana Roadways seeking to draw his attention towards the chaos. There is a proper bus stand at Iffco Chowk, but drivers do not pick and drop passengers at the designated stop. We have also asked the roadways to depute its representative at the site,” the police official said.
He added that challans have been issued to several erring bus drivers and the drive against traffic violators will continue.
The department is also planning to write to Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Rajasthan Roadways to keep a tab on errant drivers.
“It has come to our notice that heavy vehicles don’t follow lane driving and block other vehicles, which often leads to accidents and frequent jams,” an official said.

{{/usCountry}}“We don’t know where to stand to board a bus. We cannot understand why these buses drivers do not stop at the designated stops,” said Samarjeet, a daily commuter. Meanwhile, the state transport department said it will sort out the issue soon.
“We have asked the drivers to follow the traffic rules. This will help the police to run the traffic smoothly,” said Yashender Singh, general manager, Haryana Roadways, Gurgaon.
