Eleven people were killed and three injured when a tempo carrying fourteen including, the driver, had a head on collision with a bus used for a private University.
The accident occurred at about 8.15 am on Tuesday morning in Kotwali area of Vrindavan on Mathura-Vrindavan road. Eight died on the spot and three died while being taken to the hospital for treatment.
The ill fated tempo was carrying thirteen passengers and a driver while the bus was carrying students of GLA University, located on Agra Delhi highway.
The sources revealed that tempo driver attempted to save someone on the road but lost control and rammed into the bus coming from the opposite direction in Kotwali area of Mathura district.
“The tempo carrying the passengers was badly damaged and all those killed were in the tempo. Eight died on the spot while three later died while being taken for treatment. In all, eleven died in the accident. Three are still under treatment for injuries at the district hospital," informed Senior Superintendent of Police for Mathura, Pradeep Yadav while talking to Hindustan Times.
The angry locals lodged road jam in protest of deaths and police had to intervene. The road jam was later lifted.
"We have arrested the driver of bus and the exact sequence of events are being worked out. We would look into various aspects including the factor of overloading in tempos moving in Mathura and Vrindavan area," said Yadav.

{{/usCountry}}"These tempos are supposed to carry half a dozen passengers only but very often they move overloaded with no upper limit that too in full glare of public and police posted all through the way. Time and again the tragedy turns manifold because of this overloading in tempos." complained a local while lodging the road jam.
Seven out of eleven killed have been identified. Most of those killed are locals from Mathura, Vrindavan and Kosi while some being from Morena district of Madhya Pradesh.
They were on their way for to work in the early hours of Tuesday when they met with tragic end.
Relatives of those killed reached post mortem house in Mathura to look for their near ones killed in accident.
Locals were pressing for dividers on road connecting Mathura and Vrindavan on which these tempos are commonly used as a mode of transport.
The accident and the death of eleven has certainly raised issues regarding local transport and road safety norms in twin religious cities of Mathura and Vrindavan in Braj heartland.
