The bus, plying from Ramanathapuram to Bangalore and impounded in January last on the orders of the court in Ramanathpuram, is likely to be auctioned on Monday, court officials said.

Hamid Mohaideen was injured in an accident involving the bus in neighbouring Pudukottai in 1995 and was entitled to Rs 1.68 lakh as compensation in 2001. The amount has now increased to Rs 3.19 lakh, including interest and penal interest, they said.

The court ordered the seizure of the bus on a plea by Mohaideen in January, according to his lawyers Samsudeen and Mohammed Maideen.

The SETC had told the court that due to paucity of funds, it was unable to pay the compensation.

The victim has now approached the court to permit him to auction the bus, which has been parked at the Police Quarters in Ramanathpuram for the past seven months.
