If you had mugged up your NCERT textbooks from cover to cover, Tuesday’s Class 12 business studies paper would have surely been a cakewalk for you.
With what was a balanced mix of application-based and direct questions, teachers and students maintained that the paper had been modelled entirely on National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus.
“The difficulty level of the paper was uniform for all sets. Though the paper was lengthy, students who divided their time well must have completed it in the stipulated period,” said Sonali Bajaj, who teaches business studies at Springdales School (Pusa Road).
“Students who had adhered to the NCERT books would have performed well,” she added.
Students said the paper was lengthy, but maintained that it was manageable for those who had studied the NCERT books thoroughly.
“It was quite lengthy, but I enjoyed taking the exam. Those, whose concepts are clear and have gone through the NCERT textbooks thoroughly, the paper must have been good,” said Sukriti Sekhri, a student.
However, contrary to the Central Board of Secondary Education’s weightage distribution — 15% easy, 15% application-based along with Higher Order Thinking Skills Questions (HOTS) questions and 70% average — the business studies paper saw a distribution of 50% average, 30% easy and 15-20% application-based questions. However, a few students said that the paper was vague and lacked clarity.
“The paper was not too easy because it was heavily application-based. It was quite sketchy, so we cannot say how we fared. The HOTS questions and some questions carrying six marks were quite vague,” said Yashna Mehta, a student of Sardar Patel Vidyalaya.
