Two businessmen, both aged between 30-35 years, were arrested at the Ghaziabad railway station for threatening and harassing a fellow woman passenger on board the Lucknow Shatabdi train.
The girl, a Lucknow-based engineer, boarded the Delhi-bound train on April 4 and found two men sitting next to her. She was travelling alone. As the chugged along, they started passing lewd comments and harassing the 23-year-old girl.
She kept silent out of fear and did not raise an alarm, as they continued to harass her. As the train was nearing Ghaziabad, the girl got up from her seat on the pretext of going to the toilet and called her family in Ghaziabad and told them about the men. Her family reached the station and informed the Government Railway Police about it. As the family and cops were waiting for the train to reach the platform, the girl moved to the door and the men followed her.
They even tried to follow her as she got down, but were nabbed by the police.
"She was travelling in coach C-1 alone. The men had been harassing her but out of fear she did not raise an alarm. Her family informed us about the duo who even tried to follow her on the platform. But the girl soon raised an alarm and we nabbed them," said a GRP officer.
The two men were identified as Sachin Kumar and Ram Avtar Singh, both businessmen, who hail from Modi Nagar in Ghaziabad. The two were booked under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC at Ghaziabad GRP police station.
