‘MUMMY KAB ayegi?’ whispers a three-year-old girl Vaishali currently in Childline’s care.
Just five days ago her parents had left her at a city crèche. But, they didn’t return to take her back home.
Her innocence is raising more questions than one can think of. Have her parents abandoned her, because she happens to be the third girl child in the family, or has the unexpected kept them away? She cannot answer all these questions.
She gets confused everytime she is asked her name, address and about her parents. But, what’s her fault? She was brought to Childline on Friday afternoon with the help of Qaiserbagh Police Station. According to the police, a man who introduced himself as Ashwani Kumar Agarwal along with another man who was reported to be his father-in-law, went to a Childcare crèche in Lalbagh with this three-year-old kid for her admission on August 21, 2006. They reportedly informed that they were staying at 104/3 in Transport Nagar. But, when crèche owners asked them for proofs, both men assured them of furnishing the same the in the evening. However, they did not come back to crèche to take back their daughter, informed the police. When crèche authorities tried to find out on the given address, no one was found on that given address. Finally, the crèche authorities had to inform police about the incident. The cops are investigating the case on the basis of this information, said Station House Officer of Qaiserbagh Police Station Digvijay Singh.
Coordinator, Childline, Eshan and his team, while talking to the kid tried to take out information about her belongings. All Vaishali could inform is that perhaps she has three sisters, Khushboo, Dipali and Shikha. Her residence is at Ashiana and she goes to City Public School. An Advocate, IB Singh informed that it is mandatory for a crèche owner to have identity proofs. The crèche administrator, Dasline Charan said, “In this particular case, it was our fault that we trusted the people because they were leaving their child with us”.
