THE ASHIANA rape victim is desperate to get back home from protective detention and relieve her of the guilt that her plight is making her parents suffer.
She is nervous, but determined to see the accused punished. The only thing that’s gnawing her is that the incident has caused so much pain to her parents.
Besides, what’s eating this 14-year-old girl is the thought that she has to stay away from home despite no fault of hers.
She says, “I am desperate to go back home to my family. I miss my parents and my little brothers. It’s been a year since now and I have not gone home. I haven’t done any crime. Then why? In fact, those who committed the crime should be staying in confinement and not me.”
The victim was presented before the court on Monday. She looked nervous but confident. Dressed in a black salwar-kameez and accompanied by a lady constable, she didn’t talk unless it was required.
Talking to HT Lucknow Live she said, “I want the accused punished. I want this not only because they committed the horrendous act but also because this would at least ensure that they don’t repeat this. They must fear the law.”
She says, “When I am at home I think about the incident a number of times and feel very dirty about everything. It makes me think as to why there are bad people in the world. I did not harm those men in any way so why did they do such a thing to me?”
In retrospection, the victim murmurs, “I want to become either a lawyer or get into the police. This way I will be able to make some change in the existing scenario and do something for victims like me.” At present all she wants is to break free from the confinement and get back to her family.
She identifies 2 more
THE GIRL appeared before the court and identified two accused on Monday.
They are Aman Bakshi and Bhartendu Mishra. Hearing in the case against two others was going on in Juvenile court. The girl narrated the horrible experience she went through on May 2, 2005 and stated that the two accused, whom she identified, had dragged her into the car while she was walking towards her home that evening. There were two other youths in the car. She further stated that the foursome tortured her and took turns on her.
The youths were playing the stereo of the car in full volume to avoid her screams emanating out. They later took her to a plot where the four youths and two others raped her. The accused later dumped her on the road in a semi-unconscious state, the girl lamented.
