Campaigning for the May 20 elections to the 35-member Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) ended on Tuesday.
The searing heat played no deterrent with over 470 candidates and their supporters making last-minute efforts to woo over 8.20 lakh voters.
Though caste was a major factor in the Parliamentary and Assembly polls in Faridabad, almost all 470 candidates in the fray in the civic polls played the development card.
They promised almost everything — from laying of sewer lines to a pollution-free environment, to development of children's parks, to widening of roads, etc.
As campaigning ended at 5 pm, the people heaved a sigh of relief since the non-stop rallies had caused long traffic snarls almost everyday.
“I was happy to note that development was the main plank,” said Anil Kumar, a resident of Neighbourhood 4, adding, “I equally feel happy that campaigning has come to an end.”
Over half-a-dozen former corporators who contested the Assembly polls in 2009 and lost, preferred not to contest this time.

{{/usCountry}}“If my four candidates win the MCF polls, they will certainly ensure my victory in the next Assembly polls,” said Pravesh Mehta, former corporator from Ward 26. Mehta had contested the assembly elections from Faridabad.
