A CAMPAIGN will be launched to create awareness about the ill effects of child labour. National secretary of Hind Mazdoor Sabha RA Mittal, who was in the city to take part in a workshop on ‘Sensitisation programme for state and district coordination committees for elimination of child labour,’ as part of the campaign parents of child labours, employers and the people would be apprised about the negative impacts of child labour.
“A discussion with employers will be held and efforts will be made to seek their cooperation in the elimination of child labour,” stated Mittal. He also said that there was a misconception that child labour programmes in force for the past 20 years had not been able to bring any desired result. “A recent report of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) stated that between 2000-2004 more than one crore child labourers had been rehabilitated,” Mittal remarked.
On the rehabilitation of child labourers, Mittal said under the National Child Labour Elimination Programme of the Union Government, free education was being provided to the kids. He added that scholarships were being given to meritorious students under the programme.
About the Indus project, Mittal said the project was being run in five districts of the State including Kanpur, Allahabad, Firozabad, Moradabad and Aligarh.
Coordination committees had been formed in these districts, which would be provided with all assistance, including financial, for the successful execution of the child labour projects.
