BJP mayoral candidate Dinesh Sharma today campaigned for seeking support of the doctors’ community even as they passed a resolution to support him, at a meeting at Saraswati Kunj, Nirala Nagar. Vidyut Karmchari Parishad, Nagar Nigam Karmchari Union, and unions of Indira Bhavan and Shakti Bhavan have also decided to support Dinesh Sharma for mayor’s post.
A vehicle rally was taken out in support of Dinesh Sharma through Bulaki Adda, Rajajipuram and Sheetla Devi ward. Amar Sahai, candidate of Sheetla Devi ward, along with former corporator of Hardin Rai ward carried out house-to-house campaign at Sheetla Crossing, Tikaitganj Kuchua and Katra. Besides, the BJP’s mayoral candidate held a public meeting in Niwazkhera, Narhi, Chandrabhanu Gupta ward, Farhat Hussain Dargah Mian road, Mal Avenue and Vishal Khand.
Meanwhile, mayoral candidate of the Congress Manzoor Ahmed campaigned in the court premises. He addressed the lawyers and sought their support in the elections. Samajwadi party mayoral candidate Dr Madhu Gupta campaigned in 27 wards on Wednesday.
Mainpuri CO attached to SP
THE STATE Election Commission (SEC) directed the State Government to attach the CO of Mainpuri Onkar Singh Yadav to the superintendent of police office. Yadav was accused of using his office to influence voters in favour of a political party. The SEC has restricted the visit of executive engineer RB Pal posted in the Minor Irrigation Department to Pratapgarh. SEC officials said Pal was trying to influence the voters in favour of a political party.
After appointing observers for the first phase of the poll, the SEC issued list of 101 IAS and PCS officers who will be deputed as observers for the second and third phase of the poll. For the second round poll on October 31, PK Jha has been posted in Lucknow, Balwinder Kumar in Meerut, Gangaram Baruah in Agra, Devendra Chaudhary in Allahabad, Arun Arya in Gorakhpur, Rohit Nandan in Kanpur and Rajiv Kumar in Varanasi.

UPCC demanded that theSEC should put an effective check on the misuse of official machinery in the ensuing elections to the urban local bodies. UPCC vice-president Siraj Mehandi said that SEC’s decision to suspend the Chief Minister’s programmes to distribute unemployment allowance and kanya vidya dhan was a welcome move but the SEC should have taken the step a bit earlier. UPCC chief spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh has already urged Governor TV Rajeswar to take effective steps to ensure free and fair election as “the SEC had failed to enforce its own code of conduct.”
