CANDIDATES WHO took the Common Admission Test (CAT) this year have sought information about anomalies in the CAT examination from IIM-Lucknow (IIM-L) under the Right to Information (RTI) Act .
They have also demanded that IIMs make the ‘answer key’ to CAT 2006 public and urged the premier management institutes to ensure “justice” to scores of candidates who had suffered because of the anomalies in CAT this year.
This is the first instance in the country where students have sought information from IIMs under the RTI Act.
CAT is conducted jointly by IIMs every year. This year the CAT was mired in controversy with several errors being reported in the question paper.
While the IIMs have ruled out a re-exam, several candidates are clamouring that a ‘re-test’ is the only logical option left.
About six candidates who took CAT this year met the Public Information Officer (PIO) of IIM-L Colonel (Retd) RK Jaiswal on Thursday and formally sought to know the answers related to CAT.
“Apart from seeking details about anomalies about CAT 2006, we have also demanded that IIMs inform us about the decision taken by the committee formed to look into the issue of anomalies creeping into the CAT paper this year,” said Akhilesh Bajpai, who took CAT this year. Bajpai is among those students pressing for a re-exam.

{{/usCountry}}When contacted Col (Retd) Jaiswal, while admitting that some candidates did meet him and sought information regarding CAT under the RTI Act, said that he found the “queries vague.” However, he said that he had accepted the application of the candidates and he would forward their queries to the authorities concerned, at the earliest.
