AGITATED OVER the sacking of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director, Dr P Venugopal, the students of Banaras Hindu University took out a candle light procession on Thursday night and demanded immediate removal of Union Health Minister, Anbumani Ramadoss.
Students of the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), Institute of Technology (IT), Commerce Faculty and other streams assembled under the banner of Youth for Equality took out the candle procession from the IMS campus to the main gate of BHU at around 9 pm on Thursday.
The agitated students requested the President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, to intervene into the matter and ensure that Dr P Venugopal got justice. Besides, the students also demanded from Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, to remove the Union health minister with immediate effect.
“Dr P Venugopal, who served the nation throughout his life, should have been given an opportunity to put his stand before being sacked”, said Dr Dipak Gautam of Medicine department at the IMS, BHU. He said Union Health Minister, Anbumani Ramadoss should be removed from the Cabinet with immediate effect for sacking the AIIMS director.
