Caring for accident victims will be rewarded

EXPRESSING SERIOUS concern over the growing incidents of death in road accidents on the national highways in the State, deputy director of State Traffic Directorate, Dr Purnima Singh (IPS) said, all those common people who rush the injured of road mishaps to hospitals, will be given a reward of Rs 200 on each injured by the government.

EXPRESSING SERIOUS concern over the growing incidents of death in road accidents on the national highways in the State, deputy director of State Traffic Directorate, Dr Purnima Singh (IPS) said, all those common people who rush the injured of road mishaps to hospitals, will be given a reward of Rs 200 on each injured by the government.

“A proposal to this effect sent by the directorate to the Chief Minister, has already been approved. The funds of award will be transferred to the district police chiefs. Most probably, it would be implemented within a month. It would definitely help the common people in rushing the injured to the hospitals without making any delay to save their lives,” she said.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day training programme of traffic police personnel of Varanasi zone, Dr Singh said that a total of 18,325 road accidents took place in UP out of which 9,955 people were killed and 12,883 seriously injured in the year 2005.

It is need of the hour to check the growing road mishaps through Scientific Traffic Management, she added.

Dr Singh said that a month long comprehensive awareness programme of traffic rules on highways, has been launched in Varanasi zone to educate masses about the traffic rules through scientific traffic management.

Three districts of UP — Agra, Lucknow and Varanasi — have been provided ultra modern mobile traffic vans to curb the road mishaps.

IG Zone for Varanasi range, AC Sharma, was the chief guest of the function while SSP Ashutosh Pandey established the theme of scientific traffic management.

Traffic police personnel from different districts of Varanasi zone attended the training programme.
