According to the police, in 2002, Chahal got a hi-tech modular kitchen worth Rs 15 lakh installed at his Patiala residence by complainant Kanwaljeet Singh, but never made the payment.

Patiala SSP SK Asthana said Kanwaljeet Singh runs a catering company, Commando Catering, at Mohali.

Singh came in contact with Chahal at Amarinder's Patiala residence New Moti Bagh Palace in 2001. A year later, Chahal called on Singh at his Mohali residence. That was where he saw the modular kitchen and requested Singh to install one at his Patiala house.

Singh complied. The kitchen included a cooking range, dishwasher, microwave ovens, refrigeration system and other accessories.

In his affidavit to the police, Singh alleged that Chahal refused to pay up and threatened him. Singh was forced to remain silent because of Chahal's clout at that point in time.
