Case registered against Rewa cop for harassing minor boy in custody

A week after a complaint was lodged by a minor boy in connection with alleged brutality in police custody in Rewa, police on Monday registered a case against Baikunthpur police station in-charge and started investigation.

A week after a complaint was lodged by a minor boy in connection with alleged brutality in police custody in Rewa, police on Monday registered a case against Baikunthpur police station in-charge and started investigation.

Police station in-charge SK Sharma was also suspended with immediate effect on Monday. This action has been taken by superintendent of police (SP), Rewa, Akash Jindal after the inquiry report submitted by deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Ashutosh Pandey.

"In preliminary investigation, the police station in-charge was found guilty. A case under section 330 of IPC was registered against him. As of now, he has been suspended. Investigation is still on and further action would be taken after investigation report," said SP Akash Jindal.

The HT on Monday reported that the inquiry report conducted by an DSP rank officer into the case suggested that the private part of the boy was burnt and given electric shock.

The incident had occurred on November 29 at Baikunthpur police station, when two minors were detained by police on charges of theft.

The family members later also approached to SP Jindal and Inspector General of Police (IG), Rewa Pawan Srivastava and lodged a complaint, demanding in inquiry into the case.
