The CBI teams following him from Kanpur sealed his fate minutes after he entered his house in sector 50, Alok Vihar in Noida. The search that ensued led to recovery of Rs 3 lakh, which he was paid as his cut.

The top officer is being brought to Lucknow where the CBI has registered a case charging him with involved in corruption.

The CBI teams on the other have fanned out raiding the offices and residences of several engineers in league with Nath. Houses of about half a dozen engineers associated with different development projects in Kanpur Cantonment are being searched.

Navendra Nath is a 1990 batch officer had he’d taken over the chief executive of Kanpur Cantonment in August last year. He was blinking on CBI radar for sometime after reports of his shady deals in development projects developed.

He was netted, the sources said, on specific inputs reaching the agency keeping a close eye on him. Nath was reportedly paid his cut by an engineer on Thursday and that he was leaving for Noida with the cash.

A team boarded Delhi bound Shatabdi Express with him followed him to his house with another waiting in there. Initially he showed resistance but gave up after cash was found and he couldn’t tell from where he got it from.

The sources said the CBI was tracking certain engineers who have been paying him commission. Nath was the nodal officer for the developmental projects of Rs 5 crore going on in Kanpur cantonment and the railway fly-over at the Allahabad crossing.

Before coming to Kanpur, Nath was posted in Delhi, Sheikhpur (Assam) Munar and Babina cantonment near Jhansi. He was recently in limelight when charges of money exchanging hands marred the recruitment of 25 class IV employees for whom he was recruiting authority.

While one of the engineer raided in the follow-up to this arrest was picked by the CBI nearly four years ago on similar charges.
