An examination of the visitors’ diary of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha ‘s official residence-cum-camp office revealed that over two dozen vehicles’ registration numbers it listed were fake.

These vehicles were allegedly brought by visitors to Sinha’s 2 Janpath residence between May 2013 to August 2013. “No records exist on these vehicles in the computerised database of the Delhi traffic authorities, which shows that the entries were bogus,” said an agency source.

Among the visitors’ diary, registration numbers found as non-existent were -- DL 7 CGA 8545 (shown listed on the page for May 2, 2013), DL 4 CDP 8000 (April 4, 2013), DL 4 CDP 8000 (May 26, 2013), 21/5/13- DL 10 CM 2573(May 21, 2013), DL 7636 (May 21, 2013) and DL 3 BF 0027(August 8, 2013).

“Just who was maintaining the visitors’ register? Had the Delhi police or ITBP men been maintaining the register, they would have not have listed non-existent numbers,” said the source. “The diary may throw up more such fake numbers,” the source added.

It has also emerged that the diary has no record of several individuals who met Sinha. Sinha told HT on Saturday, “The so-called diary is dubious. I may have met people at my residence but I extended no favour.”
