A high-level CBI team arrived in Badaun to investigate the last month's gangrape and hanging of two teenage cousins, which had triggered global outrage and put Uttar Pradesh government in a spot for failing to check the rising incidents of sex crimes in the state.

The investigating agency had filed an FIR in the case on Thursday and reportedly announced to send a team of 20 officers led by a deputy inspector general and consisting of forensic experts.

The two cousins, aged 14 and 15, were found hanging from a tree 100 metres from their home in Katra Sadatganj village of Badaun district on the night of May 27. Autopsy had confirmed one of them had been raped.

The UP government had recommended a CBI probe after the families of the victims, accusing the police of shielding the accused, had demanded the same.

Meanwhile, one more rape was reported from Meerut district. On Thursday night, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Rakshapuram village of the district by four youths from the same village, one of whom known to her.
