Pakistan might deny that Dawood Ibrahim has found shelter on its soil but India is ready to prove otherwise. The CBI will soon provide more evidence to Interpol, Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the US Treasury Department about the don's activities and network in Pakistan.
Pakistan had recently asked Interpol to remove Karachi as Dawood's address in the special notice issued against him by the agency. Interpol, which issued the special notice against Dawood in April this year, has asked the CBI to clarify its position since the notice was issued on the address provided by the Indian investigating agency.
Sources said CBI chief Vijay Shanker — who briefed Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Home Secretary V.K. Duggal on Friday on the contentious issue — will soon be writing to his Pakistani counterpart Tariq Parvez, Director-General, FIA, with detailed evidence on Dawood's presence in Pakistan. Shanker has been directed to reiterate India's position to Interpol more aggressively.
Shanker, sources added, will provide details of Dawood's movements in Pakistan — tracked by Indian intelligence agencies with the help of the various satellite phones the don has been using.
The evidence collected through technical surveillance will also be sent to the Interpol headquarters in Lyon and the US Treasury Department, which declared Dawood a Specially Designated Global Terrorist in 2003. The evidence suggests Dawood travelled frequently between Karachi, Islamabad and frontier areas of Pakistan adjoining the Afghan border from the late 1990s. “It is only after Interpol was convinced about the proof given by us that it issued the special notice against Dawood giving his Karachi address. But Dawood has since moved out of his Clifton Mansion and Defence Housing Authority in Karachi, the two addresses given in the special notice,” a senior official said.

Meanwhile, intelligence agencies have been asked to get more details on Dawood’s latest passport. Information provided to Interpol is that the don has been travelling on a Pakistani passport G-866537 issued in August 1991.
