Singh was among dozens of policemen on duty after the recent Masuri riots and was one of the three policemen killed.

SI Singh was currently posted at the district crime records bureau (DCRB) with Ghaziabad police and had been an investigating officer in the double murder case in 2008 for a brief period.

According to CBI special public prosecutor RK Saini, Singh was not a prime witness and all the UP police officials who had previously handled the case were part of the list of witnesses the CBI had submitted before the Ghaziabad court along with their closure report in December 2010.

On May 23, 2008, Singh was assigned with the investigation when he was posted as station officer at Sector 20 police station at Noida.
