“Oh my God! I can’t believe the exams are here,” said the Class 10 Jamnabai Narsee School student.

Thakkar is one of the hundreds of city students — there are approximately 90 ICSE schools in Maharashtra with 56 in Mumbai — who will appear for the ICSE Class 10 board exams starting on Monday.

Class 12 science students from over 22 CBSE schools in Mumbai will also sit for their first board exam paper on Monday.

While it is likely to be an easy start for ICSE students as they have the English language paper, CBSE students are not so lucky with the first exam being Chemistry.

“Chemistry is a core subject and it involves a lot of learning so it is going to be a testing day for students,” said Avnita Bir, principal of RN Podar School, Santacruz.

This year, 3,935 students with special abilities — 2,228 for Class 10 and 1,707 for Class 12 — will appear in the boards.

The CBSE board has also made special provisions for visually impaired students, who can write their examinations at 14 centres, including two foreign ones.
