The Congress said on Wednesday it is apprehensive that the Centre may withdraw President’s Rule in Uttarakhand and attempt to form a non-Congress government with the support of rebel party MLAs.
A Congress delegation, led by state Congress chief Kishore Upadhyay, met Uttrakhand governor KK Paul on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum, stating that he should invite the party to form government if President’s Rule is withdrawn from the state.
“We apprehend that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would withdraw President’s Rule from the state and make an attempt to form a non-Congress government with the support of rebel party MLAs,” Upadhyay told reporters.
The Centre had, on March 27, brought Uttarakhand under President’s Rule, citing a “constitutional breakdown” after nine Congress lawmakers rebelled against their own party.
