Voicing concern over the killings of Bihari migrants in Assam by ULFA terrorists, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday sought the Centre's immidiate intervention in providing protection to the people of the state in Assam.
The Chief Minister, who held a high-level meeting in the aftermath of killings of 45 migrants, mostly Biharis, in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh distrct since Friday, rushed a team comprising senior ministers and top police officials to Assam to take stock of the situation.
Kumar spoke to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Union Home Secretary VK Duggal and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to convey his concerns and sought additional security cover in areas having substantial population of Biharis.
He said Gogoi told him that more than 40 people of Bihari origin had been killed in a series of attacks by terrorists.
"Such attacks should be condemned by one and all. The Centre should intervene immediately and provide security to the Biharis working in
Assam and elsewhere," he said.
Kumar said an alert has been sounded across Bihar and district magistrates and superintendents of police have been instructed to provide extra security in trains going to or coming from Assam and passing through Bihar to prevent any retaliatory attack.

{{/usCountry}}He said a high-level team, including Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav, Energy Minister Brijendra Prasad Yadav, Inspector General of Police Anil Sinha and Additional Home Secretary Jitendra Kumar, has left for Assam.
Demanding adequate compensation by the Centre and Assam government to the families of those killed, Kumar announced Rs one lakh ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased.
