The Centre has said that it would seek relief from the Supreme Court for Delhiites in the matter of sealing of shops in residential areas.
Dismissing any possibility of a confrontation between the Centre and the Apex Court as reported in a section of the media, Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy said "we will explain the position of the government to all sections of people and to the court. We are sure we will be able to satisfy everybody concerned."
"The legal officers will explain the notification to the court. They will do whatever is necessary," he said, but refused to specify the kind of relief they will seek from the court.
Observing that the notification had come as a big relief for the people of Delhi, Reddy said "the notification was made public as an advertisement in the papers. And I hope everybody concerned will appreciate it."
Reddy was talking to reporters after a nearly two-hour-long meeting called by Home Minister Shivraj Patil to review the situation arising out of MCD's drive to seal shops in residential areas.
