Speaking to the media, after its formal inauguration, Dr Rajesh Sharma said the basic objective of opening the Centre was to provide immediate treatment to accident victims and save lives. “I myself suffered this problem 18 years back,” he remarked.

The Centre is backed by a modern Trauma Ambulance, with ICU facilities inside it, which immediately reaches the accident spot to pick-up victims and bring them to the Centre.

“It has been seen that 30 per cent of deaths due to road accidents take place between the accident spot and hospital. And through this ambulance, we’ve tried to ensure that necessary pre-hospital first-aid and emergency support be provided to the victim,” said Dr Sharma.

Commenting on pre-medico legal formalities for accident victims, he said the Supreme Court has clear directions that the life of a victim should be saved first, followed by legal formalities. The centre has plans to communicate with voluntary organisations and auto-drivers, so that they could help accident victims on highways and other areas in the City, whenever they come to know about it.

Speaking on the occasion, orthopedic surgeon from Hirnandani Hospital, Mumbai Dr Sanjeev Jain, who recently did two hip replacement surgeries at the hospital, said there was 100 per cent treatment for joint problems and the success rate of joint replacement was almost 98 per cent depending on factors like trained surgeons, good implants, OT facilities and follow-ups.

He said cost of joint replacement surgery was 30 – 40 per cent less in Bhopal than that in Mumbai. “Regular exercise, balanced food (not junk) and proper life-style helps in preventing degeneration of bones at large,” Dr Jain prescribed.
