"Centre is making all efforts to restore peace in Jammu and Kashmir. A peace process with Pakistan and dialogue with Hurriyat Conference were initiated as part of these efforts," he said while making a statement in the Legislative Assembly on security situation in the state.

Referring to opposition National Conference member Mehboob Baig's comment that the Centre had done little to carry forward the peace process initiated by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said that it would be injustice to say that the Centre had made no efforts to further the peace process.

On the charge of deserting moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference in the dialogue process, he said, "their conditions for participation in the second roundtable in May were fulfilled. I don't know why they backed out."

Mehboob Baig alleged that "there is no policy on peace process and nothing has been done to bring the alienated sections to the dialogue table".

NC leader and former minister Ali Mohammad Sagar said that terrorists should be included in the dialogue process as "only they can put an end to violence".
