Chaudhary to be NDA's candidate for Speaker

Senior JD(U) MLA from Imamganj Udai Narain Chaudhary will be NDA's candidate for Speaker of the 243-member Bihar Assembly.

Senior JD(U) MLA from Imamganj Udai Narain Chaudhary will be NDA's candidate for Speaker of the 243-member Bihar Assembly, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Monday.

Kumar was speaking to reporters in his chamber in the Bihar assembly whose inaugural session began on Monday.

As per convention, the post of Deputy Speaker will go to a member of the opposition, he said.

Chaudhary's election is a mere formality as the NDA has 143 members in the house.

The election of the Speaker is scheduled for November 30.
