Several flights were delayed and hundreds of passengers stranded when the checking-in system at Terminal 3 collapsed at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday evening.
Airport systems sources said the software glitch also caused problem with flight information display system (FIDS), resulting in confusion both inside the terminal and at the departure gate, since no flight details were available.
The problem, said officials, persisted for more than an hour resulting in long queues at checking-in counters, which further caused delays at security check and affected flight departures.
“Due to network problem, at 4.25 pm systems at T-3, which include flight information display system and check-in counters, were down for one hour and five minutes,” a DIAL spokesperson said. “All systems have been functioning properly from 5.30 pm onwards.”
“We could not access the passenger information system. The passengers had to be individually called for their details and boarding passes and baggage tags were issued manually,” said an Air India official requesting anonymity.
