To connect the inaccessible areas and remotely located tribal hamlets, mostly situated in Maoists-infested districts, the Raman Singh government is set to launch rural road connectivity programme --‘Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Vikas Yojana’ from the next financial year in Chhattisgarh.
The scheme is going to be implemented in areas neither covered under central government sponsored ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana’ (PMGSY) nor by the state public works department (PWD).
Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, who also holds the finance portfolio, said that the initial phase of the scheme is to be accomplished during the next 3-5 years. In the state’s annual budget presented by him on Saturday, the budgetary provision of Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for the rural road construction to be undertaken in planned manner during 2011-12.
“The Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Vikas Yojana will link and connect the All-weather roads of PMGSY and the PWD. The remote unapproachable villages and unconnected habitations will be covered. And the areas affected by Maoists problem will equally get more attention”, the chief minister told Hindustan Times. As many as 12 districts of the 18 are reportedly influenced by the presence of Maoist guerillas.
