Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday said he was unaware of the Accountant General seeking a probe into the Secret Service Fund (SSF) meant for payment to informers in Jharkhand and assured of action if it was brought to his notice.
"It has not come to my direct notice except what I read in newspapers. If it is required to be brought to my notice, please be sure that action will be taken. If somebody has asked for an enquiry, I am sure it will be looked into," Chidambaram said.
"In fact, under President's Rule action has been taken against very important people," he said, apparently referring to the suspension of two IAS officers after the CBI raided their residences and registered cases against them on charges of financial irregularities.
After the AG sought a probe by the state government into the 'unusually heavy withdrawals' of Rs 5.6 crore from the SSF in March 2006, the government had served a showcause to the Director General of Police, VD Ram, in July asking him to explain his side.
"Don't jump into conclusions ... Nothing will be hushed up," Chidambaram said when asked whether the matter was being hushed up even though the Accountant General had sought a probe.
