Coming close on the heels of the mid-day meal tragedy in Mashrakh block in Bihar's Chhapra region, 5-year-old Roshan Kumar died at Somranbigha Anganwaadi Centre in Atri block of Gaya city, soon after he was administered Vitamin A drops on Wednesday.
DM, Gaya Balamuruganm D, however, told HT, that the exact cause of the death of the child could be ascertained after the postmortem report comes.
Seventeen kids were administered Vitamin A drops of which 16 were alright and had not shown any symptoms of discomfort or uneasiness, he said. The drops were administered to children at the centre at around 10am.
"I visited the angwanwadi centre today and inspected the bottle from which the drops were administered. So far, we have not received any complaints," he said.
Reports from the district suggest, that the incident came to light when parents of the deceased kid found him lying at the centre at around 1 pm and got suspicious when he did not respond to their call to wake up.
Immediately, the kid was rushed to a nearby primary health centre where he was referred to Gaya hospital, but died on the way.
On Wednesday was the first day of the drive launched by the Gaya district administration to administer Vitamin A drops to the children.
