More than 100 Chinese citizens have been evacuated from Lebanon to Syria and were on their way back to China, state media reported on Tuesday.

At least 107 Chinese nationals, including three tourists from Hong Kong, were escorted to Syria by Chinese embassy staff, China Daily said, without specifying how they were brought out.

They were mostly employees of Chinese companies in Lebanon, it said.

"There are at least 10 more Chinese citizens in Lebanon who are in need of help, some of whom are tourists," an unnamed embassy official told the newspaper.

The Chinese embassy in Israel has also set up a hotline for Chinese nationals who wish to leave, it said.

The Chinese foreign ministry on Monday urged its citizens to leave the country immediately.

Governments around the world are helping their nationals leave Lebanon amid a wave of Israeli air raids on the country since Hezbollah militants captured two Israeli soldiers.
