"Tremendous progress has been made. We are confident that something will come up sooner than later on Kashmir. The next few weeks are very crucial," the Mirwaiz told Hindustan Times in an exclusive interview.

The startling revelation has coincided with the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to India and Pakistan.

The Hurriyat leader said, he saw "Kashmir solution appearing on the horizon” in the next couple of months because of the progress made on the issue owing to cooperation between India and Pakistan. "As far as I know, China is a playing a role in it,” the Mirwaiz said.

Asked to disclose how he knew about China’s role in pushing for the resolution of the Kashmir issue, he simply said: “China can be an honest broker.”

"Earlier, we used to look toward the US for conflict resolutions. Now the time has come to look east," Mirwaiz said.
