A Chinese man stabbed ten people to death including six children, in an attack on his wife's family, state media reported.
In a separate case, a Chinese woman was charged with murdering seven people.
Wang Changyi, upset over "family conflicts", stabbed the 10 people last Tuesday, while they slept in a remote village in the poor southwestern province of Yunnan before killing himself by drinking pesticide, Xinhua news agency reported late on Tuesday night.
State media said earlier that the victims included his wife's sister, brother and six of his nephews and nieces.
His wife, a migrant worker, escaped with two children, while her mother was seriously wounded, Xinhua said.
In another case, Zhang Zongqin, 36, from Fuling District in the southwestern municipality of Chongqing, was charged with killing seven people, including her husband and two daughters, and poisoning 27 people in a spree spanning 14 years, the Shanghai Daily said on Wednesday.
Zhang fatally poisoned her two-year-old daughter in 1992 because her husband wanted a son, the paper quoted officials as saying.
She had another baby girl in 1993 and killed her a year after, the paper said.
