The remains of encounter victim Sohrabuddin’s wife, Kausar Bi, who was also killed, are said to be have been buried there.

On Saturday night, the Gujarat government formally suspended Vanzara and SP (Intelligence) Rajkumar Pandian, both of whom have been in police custody since April 24.

A state government source said Vanzara and Pandian had been suspended as per the provisions of the All India Service Discipline Rules.

The CID team — led by Geetha Johri, IGP, CID (Crime), who was given charge of the probe again on Thursday following a direction from the Supreme Court — focused its investigation on a well in the compound.

The well was found covered, with a small temple-like structure built on it.

Kausar Bi’s body was reportedly buried in the well after she was killed and partially burnt at a riverbed nearby.

Arriving at Himmatnagar, the headquarters of Sabarkantha district on Sunday, the CID team first held discussions with officials of the road and buildings department, who agreed to provide staff, as well as bulldozers and earthmoving equipment for the digging operations.
