GLOOM ENGULFED the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) office in the City as news of the demise of senior party leader Pramod Mahajan, the most promising second rung leader in the hierarchy, came in today. Congress leaders also paid tributes to the departed soul along with several social/charitable organisations and NGOs.
The party flag was lowered at half-mast, all party functions were cancelled and party leaders congregated at the local party office to mourn the untimely demise. Mahajan, who had been battling for life after being shot by his brother in his flat in Mumbai about a week ago, finally succumbed today.
State Forest and SC/ST Welfare Minister of State Prakash Sonkar termed Mahajan’s death as a national loss and said he was a fighter who rose from a small station in life to great heights and won the hearts of the people through his suave charm and sophisticated manners. BJP members Jagmohan Verma, Prakash Hedau, Vijay Thanvar, Bhupendra Adsule, Babulal Baurasi and others paid homage to the late leader.
State Congress Committee general secretary and Member of Parliament (MP) representative Mohammed Tariq Khan expressed deep sorrow on the death of Mahajan.
He described him as one of the beacon lights of BJP and an easily accessible leader. Leader of Opposition in the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) Suresh Minda said that news of the death of Mahajan reached them when they were convening a meeting of the Congress corporator’s in the IMC. The meeting was abandoned and ended with paying homage to Mahajan. Congress leaders Sarvar Khan, K K Yadav, Makhanlal Patwari, Ramesh Gagre, Prem Khadayta, Sushilarani Jain, Radhe Baurasi and others also paid their last respects to Mahajan.

The death of Mahajan was a loss to the hundreds of youth who had made him their icon and also to the world as India had lost one of its strong brand ambassadors showcasing the face of changing India, he said. General secretary Pundit Bharatkumar Ojha ‘Bhanu’ said that although the light was gone it would illuminate the path of the youth and burn bright in the heart of his admirers.
