Manicured lawns, white-washed walls and proper seating for visitors, the park’s makeover attracts hordes of visitors every day.

The city has more than 300 small and large public parks managed by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda). Of these, Netaji Subhash Park is a prominent hang-out for residents.

Earlier, piles of garbage, broken iron grills and defaced boundary walls had become an eyesore and irked area residents. Following several complaints by the Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of Sector 14, the horticulture department of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) initiated the park’s beautification work.

“We have urged the civic authorities to renovate the Netaji Subhash Park. Huda administrator Praveen Kumar instructed the officials concerned to work in the larger interest of the public,” said KS Yadav, president of the Residents Welfare Association Sector 14.

“Proper sanitation and white-wash was the need of the hour and has been done. The remaining work will be completed within a week,” he added.

“The park was not in a good condition. We discussed the issue with Huda officials and sought their intervention,” said Dinesh Agarwal, general secretary of the Residents Welfare Association.

Meanwhile, several other parks in the town will also be upgraded under Huda’s ambitious scheme.

“We will give a facelift to several other parks. People can hold their social events, organise community programmes and use it for recreation,” said Huda administrator Praveen Kumar.
