A cloudburst that took place at Jabal Khad area of Thunag tehsil under Gohar subdivision at wee hours on Tuesday caused heavy damage to the public and private property. However, no loss of human life has been reported.
The affected area is 5 km ahead from Bagsaid town area on the Mandi-Janjehali road, which is 70 km away from Mandi district headquarters.
Property worth crores that include orchards, cowsheds, approach roads built under MNREGA funds, public works department roads, bridges and a number of private houses got damaged in the incident.
The property either got damaged or washed away in a few minutes of floods caused due to cloudburst.
Reports revealed that floodwater and mud entered in nearly 40 houses at Kathyali village, whereas the Mandi-Janjehali road was blocked as the bridge at Jabal Khud got washed away in the water forcing the administration to block the route temporarily.
Meanwhile, pradhan of the affected gram panchayat, Bagsaid, Rajani Thakur confirmed that property worth crores had been damaged and heavy showers in the area were hampering the restoration work, whereas teams of the public works department (PWD), forest, police and revenue department were supervising restoration and rescue work.
Thunag area tehsildar Vidyadhar Negi said proper compensation would be provided to the affected people after conclusion of the final estimate of loss of property, whereas ex gratia to the victims had been distributed temporarily.
