AHEAD OF the Chief Justice of India’s proposed visit on August 5, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav visited Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law Institute today to take stock of the ongoing construction work of the institute’s building.
Union Minister of State for Shipping, Road and Transport TR Baalu is also expected to pay a visit to the Law Institute under construction here on Kanpur Road. The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) officials, who usually spruce up the area before a VVIP visit, were caught off guard when the CM landed at the Law Institute before they could make the necessary arrangements.
The officials of the Rajkiya Nirman Nigam (RNN), the agency giving shape to the Rs 160 crore institute building, were asked by Yadav to complete the project within the current financial year. With 1,600 seats for five-year law graduation course, the institute has already recruited 32 teaching and non-teaching staff and the academic session for the first batch of limited students is scheduled to commence from August.
Since the institute is being billed as one of the most prestigious frontline law institutes in northern India, the CM asked the RNN officials to ensure quality construction work. Chief secretary NC Bajpai, principal secretary PWD SK Agarwal, principal secretary and secretary to CM Anil Kumar and Anita Singh and LDA vice-chairman BB Singh were among those who were present during the inspection.
