CMOs asked to inspect health centres

The Allahabad High Court has directed the chief medical officers and deputy chief medical officers of the state to inspect community health centres and primary health centres of their respective areas every week to ensure their effective functioning and presence of doctors.

Passing this order, the court observed that from the records produced before the court, it was clear that there were 2,290 vacancies of doctors in rural areas.

The court said that it had been reported that 70 per cent doctors ,including the government doctors, were in urban areas where only 30 per cent population of the state lived. This led to spread of unauthorised medical care in rural areas.
Besides, Justice Sunil Ambwani said that while appointing doctors, the statutory rules be followed and posting be made accordingly.

These observations were made by the court while hearing a contempt petition filed by Rajesh Kumar Srivastava, who had moved the court that inspite of the direction of the apex court, there was no check on quacks (unauthorised medical practitioners) in the state.
