PRINCIPAL SECRETARY (Health) Neeta Chaudhary said that chief medical officer (CMOs) would be considered responsible for female foeticide in their respective districts.
The principal secretary (health), who was here to chair a review meeting of Varanasi and Mirzapur divisions in Varanasi, told mediapersons on Friday evening that CMOs would be considered responsible if any case of female foeticide came to light.
She said that the laws regarding sex-determination test and medical termination of pregnancy should be followed strictly by diagnostic centres in each district, otherwise the officials concerned would be penalised.
She said in case any irregularity regarding sex-determination test was found in any ultrasound centre, then the CMO of the area would be considered responsible and disciplinary action would be initiated with immediate effect.
She also directed the CMO of Varanasi, Dr AP Singh and CMO of Mirzapur, Dr OP Singh to ensure that the ultrasound and radiology centres followed the laws regarding sex-determination test and medical termination of pregnancy strictly in their districts.
As per information, the principal secretary (health) inspected Lal Bahadur Shashtri Government Hospital in Ramnagar and community health centres and primary health centres at Kachawa and Chunar while returning from Mirzapur here on Saturday.
She also chaired a meeting of district tuberculosis officers at Commissioner’s Compound in Varanasi today. It may be noted that the principal secretary discussed the current status of infectious diseases and steps being taken to control these diseases in the district on Friday.
