A POLICE team has been sent to Nepal to verify the credentials of five persons, who along with several others, were arrested from the house of Vineet Singh, chairman of the District Co-operative Bank, on Sunday. Vineet?s house was raided in Gola village.

The police also arrested senior Youth Congress leader Dayashankar Mishra alias Dayalu and others during the raid. They were later released.

A large number of arms were also recovered from the possession of the supporters of the arrested persons. It may be mentioned that Vineet won the election of chairman of the District Co-operative Bank by being lodged in the jail.

Five out of those who were produced before the court on Monday were of Nepali origin. They were identified as Vikram Ghale, Bal Bahadur Kesi, Lawrence Bhisht, Sawan Lama and Subhash Ghale.

“A police team has been sent to Nepal to verify their credentials,” a senior police officer told Hindustan Times on Tuesday, adding that the team was expected to return to Varanasi in a couple of days. “Their links, if any, with the Maoists will be known once the team returns from Nepal,” the police officer said.
