THOUSANDS OF children under the age of five years were administered polio drops during the pulse polio drive held across the State on Sunday. In Bhopal district, absence of about 60 people on pulse polio duty affected the drive somewhat.
Collector Sanjay Kumar Shukla said if these workers failed to turn up even for the door-to-door mop up rounds to be held on Monday and Tuesday, strict action would be initiated against them. About 6,000 polio workers were put on pulse polio duty across 1,400 booths in districts.
In the City, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan administered oral polio vaccine to children at his residence as part of the nationwide campaign.
A newborn girl Gudia Tripathi and 13 children were administered polio drops by the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister’s wife Sadhna Singh also administered the oral vaccine. The Chief Minister urged parents to be aware of malnourishment among children and provide them supplementary diet on time.
Principal Secretary Health Madan Mohan Upadhyay, Health Commissioner Ashok Varnawal, Director Health Dr Ashok Sharma were also present on the occasion.

A total of 44,014 pulse polio booths were set up while 1,350 mobile teams and 2,500 transit booths covered people on the move and in remote areas. About 1.56 lakh Government sector employees were engaged to administer the vaccine and 8,801 supervisors have been deputed to oversee the process.

{{/usCountry}}On the second and the third day – April 10 and 11 - pulse polio teams will ensure door-to-door polio drops administration to left out children.
Several NGOs participated in the campaign by the way of setting up additional polio booths or visiting slum areas to administer the drop to children. Members of the Giants International visited the Sai Nagar slums to administer the vaccine.
The members included Vinay Shrivastava, Bhupesh Khurapia, Ashish Shrivastava, Swapnil Telang, Nitin Bakliwal, Chandan Bansal, Pankaj Malviya and others.
A camp was conducted at the RD Memorial Ayurvedic and Nursing College, where the director of College Hemant Singh Chouhan inaugurated the administration of drops. Students and teachers of the college enthusiastically participated in the camp.
Students also took out a polio awareness rally from the college which went through Gautam Nagar, Rachna Nagar, Govindpura, MP Nagar, Ashok Garden and other localities and concluded at the Jyoti Talkies Square in the form of a human chain
