PROTESTING AGAINST the alleged extra fee charged from students from class IV to XII by principals of various intermediate colleges, members of the District Congress Committee education cell staged a dharna at the district magistrate’s office and handed over a memorandum demanding to set up an inquiry and to take stringent action against the principals.

Expressing his views on this occasion, district vice president of the education cell Ghanshyam Yadav and Dr Pradeep Pandey said that the CDO should take notice of the extra charges from the students otherwise the Congress would launch a movement. He alleged that corruption prevailed in the Education department with connivance of the principals.
District unit president of the cell Markandey Singh and Rais Khan said they planned to contact the guardians in this regard. They would mobilise them to stage a demonstration when chief minister arrives here, they said. Congress leaders Haridwar Pandey, Dr Imran Khan, Kusum Pandey and Hema Jaiswal accused the principals of defying the government order to provide free education up to class XII. These principals were charging extra fee and harassing the students, they said.
Education cell leader Rajiv Kumar Singh, Mohd Aslam, Mohan Gupta, Ahsan Kamal, Dayashanker Singh and others said they had identified 11 colleges in the city that were charging extra fee from the students.
