The magazine, which will be based in Mumbai will operate its own publications in India and not enter into any joint venture publishing, said Conde Nast International chairman Jonathan Newhouse in a statement here.

This will be the magazine's 17th edition worldwide and the third in Asia.

"Priya Tanna has been appointed editor of Vogue India and will work alongside Anna Harvey the editorial director of Indian Vogue, as well as other senior international Conde Nast executives," it said.

Tanna was an editor till recently on After Hours, the entertainment and lifestyle daily of DNA, Mumbai.

Former managing editor of Maxim (New York) Laura Silverman has been appointed managing editor of Indian Vogue while fashion and lifestyle journalist Bandana Tewari will be the fashion features editor.

"Unlike most other Western publishers, Conde Nast will own and operate its own magazines in India rather than publishing through a joint venture or a license. This approach reflects Conde Nast's deep commitment to the Indian market. And Vogue is just the beginning," said Newhouse.
