The district food department has issued notices to two companies for serving poor quality food to people.
Notices have been issued to a Chinese restaurant at Great India Place Mall in Sector 18, and another company, which supplies food to many IT firms in the city, for serving sub-standard food.
“We have received the result of a sample test, conducted two months ago. The result is shocking as both are reputed companies. We have issued notices to them,” said AK Jaiswal, a food inspector.
The department collects samples from food stalls, restaurants and food joints and sends them for testing on a regular basis. Every food inspector has to conduct five tests in a month.
The department has three food inspectors. On an average, it carries out 15-20 tests in a month.
The Chinese restaurant was found serving poor quality ‘cream cottage cheese’. Though it is the first time for it to receive such a notice, it is not new for the other company.
“Earlier, a notice was issued to the food-supplying firm for serving sub-standard curd. This time, the department found that poor quality paneer was being used. The company supplies food to more than 16 companies in Noida. A lot of people might have taken ill after eating the food,” said SN Singh, another food inspector.
The department has granted one month time to both
the companies to submit an explanation. After which, they will appear for a court proceeding. “They will have to appear for a court proceeding after a month. We have been carrying out sample tests to keep a check on such companies,” said Singh.
