BJP MLA from Suchetgarh assembly constituency, Sham Choudhary has accused the state government of ignoring farmers who had suffered loss to their crops and houses due to natural calamities from time to time as they were not provided any relief.
Choudhary, who had his weekly sitting at the party headquarters on Thursday, said a large number of farmers from different rural areas, including Suchetgarh, have been approaching him with the common complaint that the government did not provide adequate compensation for the loss to crops and houses, which occurred two years ago due to hailstorm.
He said people also have grouse against government's inaction over the damage caused to farmers in the recent rain and storm. Sham Choudhary added that although self-congratulatory assertions of having provided compensation are being made, on the ground there is nothing to show for it and as a result people have widespread resentment against the government.
Choudhary said farmers constitute about 80% population of the country but unfortunately they have been deprived of their genuine rights as well as benefits of various schemes launched for their welfare and betterment.
A farmer is totally dependent on agricultural produce and when the crop fails or gets damaged due to natural calamities or otherwise, the government always befools them by making false promises instead of coming forward to provide them timely and adequate compensation, he said.

{{/usCountry}}He also referred to the recent session of the state assembly at Srinagar, where the issues related to farmers were not at all taken up.
Choudhary appealed to the government to give up its policy of paying lip-service to people in general and agriculturists in particular. The government should sincerely focus on assessing the agricultural losses and provide forthrightly compensation according to losses.
